Doing talks in realraum (including recordings and streaming)
After a lot of work, realraum has the ability to be used for talks that can be recorded and streamed and later released to the internet.
You can find the livestream under streaming.media.ccc.de.
If the speaker would like to, we can publish the talk to media.ccc.de.
Pre-Check
- Does the date collide with another event?
- Post notifications on mastodon, best case 1 week before, one day before and on the day of the talk
Checklist for every talk
- Informations / Metadata for the talk (Sent by the speaker to the r3voc)
- Language
- Title
- Speaker(s)
- Short description for the talk
- Link that will be underneath the recording (optional)
- Does the speaker want to play audio from the laptop? (as of now, it is not possible to record this audio)
- If we should publish your talk, (einverstaendniserklaerung_r3.pdf) should be filled out and given to us. (Can be printed at the location)
- Are there questions during the talk or after the talk?
- Inform all guests that if recorded/streamed, everything said will be on the internet
- Check that the yealink telephone is muted / turned off
- Check that the air compressor is turned off / not plugged in
- Check that the Extron Video Switcher is set to output 1080p@25fps or else the encoder will not start (search for “extron” in IP Adressen)
- Changing the lights is prohibited except if done by r3voc to avoid camera problems
Software that we use
For intros/outros we are using intro-outro-generator des c3voc. More files can be found in our github orga (r3voc)
As for recording / streaming, we are using the complete voctomix stack from c3voc. You can find more information in the voctomix repo
Video Mix Notes
- When Slides change, show them. Only switch back when you have read through it at least three times in your head
Other r3voc notes
- Calendar: https://events.graz.social/@realraum
VOC-Person Notes for every talk
- Do we have written confirmation for recording and streaming?
- Is the entry in the c3voc wiki up-to-date?
- Does the streaming page reflect the talk?
- Does the entry in the c3voc import tool exist and have the correct data?
- Is the intro already rendered for the talk?
- Mixer Checklists
- Must-have:
- A/V sync

- Video Test with multiple devices to ensure that we correctly process audio and video
Technical FAQ
Here you can find many issues with possible fixes.
Capture card is all black
Most probably it is a HDCP problem. Check if the “HDCP Authorized” checkmark is disabled. If not, then you have found a new problem.
Another reason might be that the Output Format is set to AUTO, which does not work if the capture card is not used in between two devices but rather as a standalone capture card (when the output of the capture card is not connected)
Also check that the refresh rate matches the deployed config, which typically is 25 Hz
